The Glass Castle Review

The Glass Castle was a very interesting book. The Walls family went through a lot of hardships in their life. The parents could have lived a normal life and let their kids grow up going to school with lunch, nice clothes but they chose not to. They hated the government. The children grew up and matured faster than children should. Like when Jeannette was only three years old and she was cooking herself her own hot dogs and she got burnt. The day she got out of the hospital for her burns, she was cooking her own hot dogs once again and instead of her mom stopping her she encouraged her.
Their mother was never really there for her children neither was their father. Even when he asked the children if he ever let them down they always said yes when he wasn't listening. The kids grew up taking care of themselves and soon enough they figured out that if they wanted to leave West Virginia, they were going to have to do it themselves. When Jeannette was leaving it was sad that her mom was crying because Jeannette was going to get away while she was stuck in West Virginia and not because she was going to miss her daughter. Their life was miserable. I can't imagine having my family live like that. After all that though I'm surprised that the children turned out so normal with normal jobs like being an author or a police officer.
